It is Hard to Kick Against the Goads!

"It is hard for you to kick against the goads." - Acts 26:14d.
It is hard to go against God. You can never make true progress in your life without walking with Him.
A goad is a spiked stick used for driving cattle or oxen. Some synonyms are prod, spike, staff, crook, and rod.
Apparently, "to kick against the goads" was a common expression found in both Greek and Latin literature - a rural image, which is from the practice of farmers goading their oxen in the fields.
Goads were typically made from slender pieces of timber, blunt on one end and pointed on the other. Farmers stuck or poked their ox, when he was being stubborn, with the pointed end to get him to move in the direction he wanted for him to go. Occasionally, the ox would kick at the goad. Bad move. The more the ox kicked, the more likely the goad would stab into its leg.
Everyone who fights against God by disobeying Him is about as smart as that dumb ox. It's like kick a goad - it's only going to hurt us. Everyone who chooses to hate the law of God is acting foolishly. We should affirm with David: "O how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day." (Psalm 119:97) and "When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches," (Psalm 63:6) God's law is the law of love! "Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law" (Romans 13:10) "But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does." (James 1:25)
Let's not kick at the goads and get a spike in our leg like a dumb ox! Let's fulfill God's perfect law of love and be blessed in what we do!
